Winegard Rayzor Automatic Antenna Error Code 3

I powered up the Rayzor to check out the local channels and it only found 1. Hit the search button on the control panel and it started flashing error code E3. Looked it up in the manual and it said this is a motor not moving error. Tried reset and still have the problem. Has anyone else seen this code? If so, was it a critical failure that required unit replacement?

Yep! Ours required replacement of the entire roof unit under warranty. It's an easy replacement, they leave the current mounts on the coach and just bolt up the new one and connect the coax.

Tech had to come out and spend 10 minutes on the roof and on the phone with Winegard to determine it was broken, then wait two weeks for replacement unit to be sent from factory, then tech came back out and spent 10 minutes reconnecting.

If you are still under warranty be sure to call Newmar first, they helped speed the process a little.

Same with ours. E-3 error. Winegard had some test procedures to make sure it was not the connection from the unit to the controller. They replaced the roof unit and all is good.

x3. We had ours replaced last Fall under warranty with same problem. Hopefully Newmar and Winegard are more aware of this issue now, but when we called it took awhile to get to the right person. Actually, I think my mistake was calling Winegard first. When I called Newmar, they conferenced me in with a much more knowledgeable Winegard rep. Easy change out as mentioned earlier. No issues so far this year.

Thanks to you all! I did as suggested and called Newmar/Winegard. We went through the test process and verified it was the antenna. Winegard is sending us a new one and I'll replace it myself. They were clearly aware of this issue so it should be easier for others calling with the same problem. I hope it is just a matter of a bad batch and not a design fault!

Not Just Newmar

Just had a Rayzor 8535 installed in Red Bay on my Tiffin (NEVER TIFFIN - NEVER AGAIN). Anyway, unit worked for the time it was in Red Bay, but on the drive home, I got the E3 error.
I have called Winegard on 2 on different days and get the message "Our tech specialist are so busy..." message, please leave name and number.
No response.
This was installed by a licensed, outside contractor so it should be covered. I just don't have Tiifin to call - not that it would accomplish anything to call Tiffin. (NEVER TIFFIN - NEVER AGAIN).
Looking to buy a Newmar 4310....any comments from 4310 owners?

I'm on my second unit, and it just failed with the same E3 error code. The first one worked fine for a week or two, the second one lasted for a month. I'm really frustrated by the quality on this unit. My dealer replaced the roof unit after talking to Newmar and Winegard, I hate having to go through this again only to have a third unit go belly-up. It's not like there's anything exposed to the elements that could be the cause...

I just installed mine and have not driven the coach. It works great now. Could this be a vibration issue? Or after you are set up does it works one day then not the next? Just wondering.

I suppose vibration could be an issue, not sure. Generally I only use the search function (which turns the antenna with the motor) once when we arrive and set up. If something came loose during travel that could be an explanation, but my sense is it's something other than that.

Have had my RayZor for almost a year now and never any issues. I just spend a weekend in Dallas area and had over 40 channels received all great reception. Not all where ones i'd watch (LOL) but it picked up a ton and I was about 40 miles east of Dallas.

Good info tho and will watch for any error codes

The original Rayzar on my Newmar malfunctioned right off the bat. I exchanged numerous emails with Winegard and was instructed to eliminate a bad coax by removing the old one and substituting a new coax. I did that...still an Error 3. So they sent me another antenna. I installed it and it worked for a short time and now is showing Error 3. Called Winegard and they want me to do the same procedure over again. It is a lot of trouble to climb up on top of the coach, connect another coax and run it through the door of the coach and hook it up to the control panel but this is what I have had to do each time. I have tried to get Winegard to send me a replacement unit before I climb up on the roof. While on the roof, I can check the coax and if it is not the problem, install a new antenna.....they won't do it. I will try having Newmar intervene.....

UPDATE
We are now on our THIRD Wineguard Rayzar Automatic antenna.

Our original Rayzar Automatic lasted about 6 months.
The replacement Rayzar Automatic stopped working after about 4 months.
Newmar replaced that Antenna and the inside control unit in Nappanee in July. So far it is working, we will see how long this one lasts.

I really like these antennas but Wineguard needs to beef up the rotating mechanism so these become reliable.

x2. We are also on our third Rayzar Automatic for our 2015 Dutch Star. The first replacement was both the antenna and inside control unit, while the second was only the antenna. Last replacement was just a few weeks ago, and so far it it is working. In both cases it was the E-3 error noted earlier.

We are also on our third antenna within 6 months of purchase. Same E3 error.
