Winterizing

Does anyone just use air to winterize? I was told where I purchased my Bay Star to use air only. I am in north Idaho and it does get very cold. I have always used the anti freeze but decided to do air only this year. I am a little nervous since it is new but did get the water out of the water pump filter, the low line by the water pump and opened up all the lines hot & cold one at a time and blew the water out. Also drained the water heater. I then poured anti freeze in the toilet and all the traps. Should be OK shouldn't I? I just like the idea of air without the anti freeze.

Thanks

I hate the pink stuff in my lines, so I did the same a couple years ago when I had to winterize. I did remove the pump and left those lines disconnected. No problems in the spring.

We have always used the fluid, but this year we have an Itasca Meridian 34B and the manual says to use air alone, but does include a section on how to winterize with the fluid. We used the on-board compressor thru a 40psi regulator. After doing that we decided to use the fluid anyway. It was a bit surprising how much water we got out of several of the faucets as we pumped the pink fluid into the system. Bottom line for us is that we are still unsure about air alone. It's good to hear that others have had success with air alone in cold climates. Perhaps next year we will go with air only.

being from the tundra of northern Minnesota, I have used air to blow out lines, then bypass Hot water heater and run antifreeze through the system and drains. This is only because we can get up to 40 below air temps over night and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I have used air only for 14 years. I do dump pink stuff down drains and into gray and black tanks. A gallon total. Only issues was I missed the toilet sprayer and it cracked one year. I disconnect ice maker and filter in front of water pump.

I've used air to winterize for the past few years and it has worked great. However, I now have a coach with an Oasis aqua hot system and I'm not sure I can use compressed air on this system.

I live in MI and have used air for 20 years. Make sure you drain the ice maker and washer/dryer if you have them.

I guess its your choice to do either way when I had trailers use to blow out all the time since owning MH's have used the pink stuff have more expensive valves in toilets and plumbing system.
Every spring sanitize plumbing system any how which eliminates any pink anti affecting water taste.
Tips on winterizing.
