Would you leave your coach overnight at a shop
I have an appointment at a Freightliner shop day after tomorrow to fix 2 items I thought could be done in one day. Now that the parts have been ordered and received at the shop they call to verify this and tell me they will need the coach for 2 days. I assumed one day would be enough and had intended on staying with the coach all day. The shop is 90 miles from home.
One item is covered by FL warranty (leaking side radiator fan gear box) but only have about 3 weeks before that warranty period ends. The other is covered by my Extended Warranty(dash air conditioner). I plan on leaving on vacation in 1 week where I have reservations. I could have the FL warranty item done now and have the Extended warranty item done later but not sure the shop will wait 6 weeks with an open repair order and the part already received and unpaid for.
I've never felt comfortable leaving my coach unattended at a shop and am undecided what to do in this case. Would you leave your coach when it seems unavoidable? This shop works on motor homes but it's definitely not one of their specialities. How many things on a motor home not associated with the mechanical end could a shop tech unintentionly screw up in the process of working on the chassis that might not show up for weeks?
Between a rock and a hard place and not sure what to do.

Are you afraid of theft? Snooping through your belongings? I don't understand your reluctance to leave the RV overnight. If you full time live in it, a night in a hotel might be a nice change of scenery.

I have left coach with Freightliner in Tolleson AZ & Cummings in the Tolleson. Cummins stores it in behind a security fence, and Freightliner has a security guard. Mechanics have access to the inside. Never had an issue.

wagonmaster2 i'm like you I don't like leaving my RV anywhere. At times it's a necessity. I worry more what can happen in their storage lot more so than if it's actually in a bay in the shop !

I usually stay with the coach and use that as the implied pressure to keep it moving through the process. Freightliner seems to be used to taking care of the squeaky wheel, and if you are not their waiting they will bump you back for a professional driver that is losing money (their words). Had this happen a few times before I figured it out.

What Red Baron says is very true at many shops, not just Freightliner. Having said that, I have left my coach overnight several times. The biggest problem is keeping it plugged in so your batteries stay charged and your refigerator, if loaded, stays cool. If you get assurances from the shop that they will keep it plugged in continuously, I would not be concerned. Then I would set the generator on autostart in case they “forget” to plug it in.

Had to leave our coach @ Premier RV in Jct City, OR for 2 weeks while waiting on HWH to rebuild the complete control computer boards and touch pad for the leveling system...I will go and retrieve it in the morning.. Have been as antsy as a cat trapped in a round room...

I've left my coach at Camping World overnight and they managed to screw up the repairs and then denied they were at fault, so experienced or not, I don't like leaving my coach if I don't have previous experience with the shop or mechanic!

I am on my 4th MH and have left every one for repairs for up to two weeks with no problems. This included dozens of shop all over the country.
Don't be paranoid. If it is a reputable shop, they want to keep you a happy customer.
If it is 90 miles away and going to take a few days, hook up your toad, and go back home

When I contact a shop,— appointment or walk in— I make it clear that we are Fulltimers, that we live in the coach, and that we will be waiting there for it. In almost every case they have worked with us and all went smoothly. Twice we had repairs that required 2-3 days, and in those cases we went to a local hotel with no problems— other than the PITA involved in moving the cat!

Unfortunatly often have to leave the coach overnight at a shop. Seldom are parts and time available to fix all in a day. Dint like to - but no other option.

is it an OASIS level FL dealer ? if so, i would have no problem....they handle RV's all the time....they should offer to plug it in, as well....
if it's not, even then i wouldn't have a problem, as long as its kept in a locked and gated area, or stored inside overnight...you can ask if they are going to keep it in a bay overnight....

I have a question concerning leaving my motorhome overnight for my yearly service work. Do I give them the keys to my compartments or just the keys they need?

If you don’t leave the keys, are you willing to return to unlock them if something unexpected is found that requires access? I always leave the compartment keys, and have never had any problems.
