Xantrex Inverter - Battery Desulfation

Every so often, I have set my inverter to desulfate my coach batteries. I checked to make sure that the batteries were fully charged and the Inverter/Charger was in the Float Mode with a voltage of 13.4 volts going to the batteries. I followed the procedure which is to active this function on the Inverter Control Panel by pressing the Right Arrow (Settings) for approximately 6 seconds, to activate this function. The inverter did not go into the Desulfating Mode and the Inverter Display (in the MH) just started to buzz after approx 6 sec and nothing else took place. The Inverter & Charger Functions of the Xantrex works well - no problem.

I don't understand why it won't go into this function. I have done it a number of times in the past w/o any problems. I would appreciate your help in solving this problem.

In QT's # 3 there are threads and manuals with trouble sections for every type converter/inverter.

Do not understand why the Xantrex needs to be put into Invertor Mode to properly charge your batteries as it does same in normal mode, with float charging as the final phase (13.6 V on the panel module)

Renden,

The Xantrex does not need to go into the Inverter Mode. The charger does its job in so far as Bulk Charge, Absortion Charge & Float Charge but will not go into the Desulfation Mode which is putting out something like 16 volts to the batteries for 3 hours before returning to Float Charge.

Our last set of Interstate U-2200's lasted one month short of 10 years (and were still OK). In that time I NEVER ran the desulfation mode either.
