I recently purchase a 2007 Mountain Aire and want to use my portable XM receiver connected to the front panel of Pioneer surround sound receiver. It works well and the sound is great. What I have a problem with is the signal reception. I am using the “home” antenna inside the cabinet with all the equipment above the refrigerator. I would like to locate an exterior antenna on the roof. I have a fiberglass roof and noticed a 6” x 6” section located in the center of the roof, just about mid-coach. It almost looks like a patch on the roof. Does anyone recognize what this may be? I am thinking I may be able to locate a roof antenna on this, drilling a hole thru it and routing the antenna cable down into the entertainment center for better XM reception.
Has anyone connected an XM device as I am describing here? Would welcome some tips on antenna location.

I would see if you could run the antenna wire up thru the Refrigerator vent.

As A K said using the refrig vent is a good option. I had a Sirus put on my satellite ready dash radio. The installer said the antenna would work from the inside dash. Not so! It would be good for a while and cut out. It drove me nuts! I moved the antenna wire through the slideout and put two way velcro on the fiberglass roof and stuck the antenna on the two way velcro. It now works perfectly. Someone on another thread stated the antenna has to be on the roof for perfect reception. Others have used thr overhead cabinets but the roof is best.

Hi LABergo,
I've taken the Newmar factory tour more times than I can remember. Be very careful if you drill into the roof anywhere in the coach. Newmar runs wiring the length of the coach along the radius where the side and the roof come together. From there they run wire parallel to the roof rafters to wherever they need power. This is not always obvious. Like already posted, see if you can use the refer vent to get the wire and antenna onto the roof. I've done this many times with great success. Keep the wire away from the cooling unit. It gets really hot and can melt insulation.

I had the same issue on my previous coach with the dash radio. I tried various locations under the roof, but the signal interruption drove me crazy. I finally located one on top of the roof....and no interruptions. It worked great.
The refrigerator vent is a good idea. I will take a look at that.

When we bought our 2007 DSDP, the dealership used one of the existing antennas on the roof for my XM Roady radio. Not sure which one, perhaps the CB antenna since I don't have a CB? Anyway, it has worked fine for 4 years. No need for a separate antenna in our case.
