After purchasing our used Newmar Mountain Aire gasser Class A, we noticed that the radio area has an emblem saying "XM Ready." Does this mean all we have to do is call XM Radio and get signed up, or do we have to buy and install some other XM device. We have XM radio in our truck and car and would love to have it in the MH. When we bought our car and truck, all we had to do is call and sign up. However, with the radio in the RV, we can't find the XM numbers like you do on regular XM radio to get it set up. So what do we do to get it set up??
Thanks for your help.

Do you have an XM antenna?
If not, that me be all you need.
Perhaps XM customer service could help.

You can laugh at my Homer Simpson, Duh !, moment but it hit me that on my rig I didn't need XM, cause I have a mobile sat tracking unit for the TV, and I get the XM channels as part of my standard package.
Up until the Duh ! hit I was looking at how to jack the XM unit into the existing dash stereo.

Hi Rhonda,
If you are refering to the Direct TV broadcase of XM channels, only a subset of the channels are available with my Direct TV hookup.
XM ready means you need to buy the XM radio and it will plug into the head unit. An example is the Pioneer unit I have in my coach came XM ready. I bought the Pioneer XM radio kit. The antenna had to be installed, on the roof and wire run to the inside of the dash. Antenna plugged into the XM radio and the XM radio plugged into the head unit. The XM radio sits inside the dash and is never seen. The user interface remains the head unit.

Rhonda: I suspect your MACA is like my KSCA. The radio is a Sony "Xplode" and shows "XM ready". I have not found that to mean much, if anything! In fact, you will need to provide an XM receiver and Antenna. Then, you will still be dependant on the XM unit to "broadcast" an FM freq. to the Sony because it does not have a cassette player (the XM units use a cassette to transfer the XM to the coach radio). Frankly, this setup is a PITA because you will find yourself having to change the FM frequency of the XM and then the Sony whenever you are in range of an FM station broadcasting on whatever freq. you have been using. This happens all too frequently as we travel down the road.
If anybody knows of a means to connect the output from the XM to a Sony Xplode radio other than the cassette, PLEASE tell me how as I'm tired of changing the freq. every 100 miles or so! ED

Ed,
In the XM kit, you received, were there parts to allow you to choose how the XM audio connects to the head unit? I've done several of these (not Sony) and the kit has always contained parts allowing choices to connect the XM audio to the head unit.

I found a kit that was in an accessory catalogue for my jeep. It has a small bracket that installs under the dash with a plug outlet for a headset size jack and a switch. There are cables that connect to the vehicle antenna so that this device actually splits the antenna cable. When you want to use your XM radio, cd player or walkman type device, all you do is set your vehicle radio at 89.5 megahertz, turn on the switch that cuts off your antenna and use a cable to run from your XM radio headset jack to the input jack on the bracket and go. Because you've cut off your external vehicle antenna, you don't get any interference from broadcast radio stations. In the case of the XM radio unit you'd also have to set the FM modulator to 89.5 megahertz. When you want to go back to broadcast radio stations, all you do is flip the switch and tune the vehicle radio. I have the unit on my Wrangler and intend to install one on my Mountain Aire. Here's a link to the unit in the Quadratec catalogue. I believe the one for the older jeeps is for a flat surface under the dash and the one for the newer jeeps has a curved plate to conform with the curved section under the dash. I'd suggest calling quadratec and asking them to be sure.

If you have a 03 coach you may have a AUX-IN selector Sony XA-300 that will take MD Walkmans, cd/md changers, LAPTOP COMPUTER, DVD player or head phones.
I have a SANSUNG MP3 player that I will be plugging into the USB port on the unit.
On the radio you have CDI, CD2/AUX1, CD3/AUX2, CD4/USB PORT that you pick from your Source and Mode buttons on the radio.
I was going to put in a 10 disk CD changer but with the MP3 or a I-POD unit you can store a whole bunch of music.
You maybe able to use the CD2/AUX1 input for your XM device.
You will find the XA-300 unit on velgro to a shelf under dash that you can access from the opening on top of dash to access your fuses its to the right.
You will have to buy the cords to match the inputs and the Sony radio will control the XM receiver as it would the CD changer.

Your CD3/AUX2 INPUT should be your front TV input to play your TV thru your radio spk's.
