On my coach, in the large passenger side bay in the ceiling is the unit which provides the heat and a thermostat, I have mine set to 40 degrees, although, I have never seen it work, since the Inverter/Charger provides enough heat to keep those bays warm enough down to near 20 degrees. Lower than those outside temps, I think it starts, but have never actually heard it run. Remember zone 2 must be calling for heat or the basement system will not work. Heat does not need to be provide into zone 2, but the thermostat needs to be set for zone 2 to provide for heat.
Since we always moved south when the temperature dropped below 70, I had never seen mine work either. So I inserted the end of the thermostat probe in a super cold ice/salt bath as a test. The basement heat came on & I never worried about it again.
