Hey Guys,
The manual says that there is an engine-mounted fuel filter in addition the the one in the access bay. My mechanic has traced the fuel line 100% and can't find one. He even lifted the bed, but no additional engine mounted filter. Could it be that the previous year model had one, and the 1999 1/2 didn't?

Particularly since the "engine mounted" filter is smaller. If you browse "cummins FS1251" you can find a picture on Amazon (who'd 'a' thunk it?)

My guess is that they switched from an engine-mounted filter to a remote filter midway during the production year and so the owner's manual lists both.

My 1999 also did not have an engine mounted fuel filter. It only had the fuel/water separator filter. This was verified by Cummins several times.

Don't have an engine mounted filter on mine either.

My mistake. I just crawled around my engine and there is a fuel filter on the engine. I guess Cummins doesn't think it worth changing as I have never seen a bill for a new one when I have had a service done.

This from a recently received document I inherited from Cummins NW (will be on the Tech Library when I get time to scan some stuff in):
Fuel Filter
Mechanical C8.3 275hp & 325hp, Engine: FF5052, Remote: FS1242-B

ISC 330hp & 350hp, Remote: FS1022

ISL 400hp, Remote: FS1022

ISL 400hp 2005 Model Year, Engine: FF5488, Remote: FS1003

That's all I know.

For the owners of the cummins C8.3 (mechanical) engines, I came across this in the Bluebird Owners' forum:

Cummins C8.3 engine in BMC 37'. There are four filters you should be concerned about.

LF3000 - Lube filter which is your engine oil filter. Make sure you fill it with oil when replacing it.
There are 2 gaskets -- both should be lubricated with oil.

Fuel/Water Separator which in essence is your primary fuel filter. It's the one that's easy to get to
and is the larger of the two fuel filters. It is at the right rear of the coach mounted on the frame
rail. It has a drain on the bottom which you can open to drain out any accumulated water. Fill
with fuel and lube the gasket with oil before replacing it. There are several options for this filter:

The FS1242 and NAPA 533242 are designed for use with a clear plastic bowl at the bottom.
The FS1212 is designed without the clear plastic bowl. IE: If your coach has the clear plastic
bowl at the bottom you will need FS1242, or NAPA 533242. If your coach does not have the
clear plastic bowl you will need part number FS1212. I loaded pics of the two filters in the photo

FS1251 - This is the smaller of the two fuel filters. It is located high up on the passenger side of
the engine and is a real ***** to get to. The "special tool" used to get to it is called a long, greasy
arm. Be ready to jump in the shower whenever you finish replacing this one. Like the other fuel
filter, fill with fuel and lube the gasket with oil before replacing it.
