A simple question

What is the big white plastic tank on the PS in the very rear of the engine area the one with the large lid and is there supposed to be any thing in it??

Than for the simple answer, if you have the Auto Battery Fill on your Alpine than that tank would hold distilled water, it is the water reservoir for the battery fill system.

I do not have a auto battery fill system on the coach. That container looks like it would hold a few gallons. So this is not a factory install? Thanks for the info Dave.

That is what my first thought was but it is lacking the proper plumbing.It would hold 4 gallons of fluid easy.The construction of the bracket/support is well designed. Witch led me to think that WRV installed it as maybe an option. Just another unsolved discovery. I have also discovered that my fuel lift pump will leak now and then. I was able to get a half turn on only one of the top three bolts. I hope that cured the leak but I wouldn't bet the rent on it. The two times that I got it to leak were the two times that I had cycled the pump motor 5 or 6 times with out starting the engine one time I was wiring in a converter for towing my 95 jeep wrangler the other was when I first bought it and was trying to find out how to get the large slide out. Time will tell on the leak and if I find another drop it will be time for a new transfer pump.

Never seen a battery fill tank like that. Most BFT's hold maybe 3/4 to 1 gallon. Could be the PO had a tank and installed it for that purpose.

Or maybe you have the prototype DEF engine? (kidding)

Dont think this was a WRV option--doesnt look like anything I have ever seen on a 2003 Alpine. Tracking the "plumbing" from this tank to where ever it goes should provide some insight. Battery fill and engine coolant over flow top my list, possible uses get pretty exotic after that....

Well this was not a simple question. I have never seen this type of reservoir before on any Alpine that I have seen. It looks like it is sitting next to the Hydraulic Reservoir. I would suggest opening the reservoir and see if you can determine the type so fluid that is in it. I would also crawl under the coach and try and trace the lines to see where they go. That should help to determine what it is used for and the type of fluid that it should contain.

ID:	23845 Mystery solved. It's a water/methanol injection setup.My next question is should I check it out to see if it works and use it or remove it?? Are these being used by any Alpiner's? Any thoughts or advice would be welcomed.

That explains the size. I'd scrap it out, maybe some clever jamoke on eBay wants it.

If the PO used it, I think I would have compression check done on the engine and also have the turbo tested. Alcohol/water is not a good combination in a diesel I don't think. I also could be dead wrong, because when I was in USN, we used alcohol/water combo to give those engines a boost on TO, when planes were at max TO weight. But that was a avgas radial engine, and the AC was at 115K pounds at max, those 4 2800's needed all the help they could get.

Alcohol/water injector systems are not uncommon with street tuners that turbocharge high compression engines that were not designed for it to begin with. It's a good way to cool the hot compressed charge air and prevent detonation.

I have no idea what a system like that would be doing on a turbodiesel unless they were playing with a tuner or something. If it runs fine with the tank empty I'd pull it out.
