ACA 2010 Heritage Rally

ACA Heritage Rally 2010

26 October – 1 November 2010

“Deep in the Heart of Texas”

Welcome to Texas, Y’all! And Wilkommen zu New Braunfels!

We’re so excited that you’re coming to visit us and we can’t wait to show you around our home town. We’ll be staying at the Lazy L&L Campground (www.lazylandl.com) right on the beautiful Guadalupe River in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, just north of New Braunfels (that’s about mid-way between San Antonio and Austin). This time of year the cypress trees will be starting to show their fall colors and, hopefully, Mother Nature will honor us with some typical South Texas fall weather . . 70’s and sunshine.
We’ll be going to Wurstfest, a “celebration of sausage” and a celebration of the German heritage of New Braunfels. This nine-day event is filled with many activities in and around the city of New Braunfels--you will love the entertainment and the food. Check it out at www.wurstfest.com.
Right in our backyard are three of the top 5 barbecue places in Texas and we’ll be taking a little road trip through the hill country to visit one of them, the Salt Lick (you may have seen or heard about it on the Food Network). There we’ll be having family-style, all you can eat barbecue brisket (sliced, not shredded), ribs, sausage, and chicken (smoked, not smothered).
Down the road from the campground (the beautiful River Road which crosses the Guadalupe River three times) is the oldest dance hall in Texas, Gruene Hall. It’s in the middle of the historic town of Gruene, where there are plenty of restaurants and shops.
We’ll have a couple of catered meals and a couple of pot lucks. We are also planning a big Texas welcome on the first night with live music so bring your boots (dancing shoes). On our last night (which happens to be Halloween), we’ll have a “Hat Party.” So, plan to wear a hat . . . a golf hat, a cowboy hat, a sun hat, a funny hat, a pretty hat, an ugly hat, a crazy hat, a fancy hat, a plain hat . . . any hat will do, just wear a hat! (And your other clothes, too, of course!)
Between our planned activities, there will be plenty of free time for you to do some sightseeing and relaxing. We’ll also have an optional “scavenger hunt” that will get you out and about in the lovely city of New Braunfels.
We’re finalizing the meals and agenda, now, and will get them out to you as soon as we can, along with registration forms. In the meantime, please mark your calendars and plan to join us “Deep in the Heart of Texas!”
Looking forward to seeing you in October!
Dean and Jan Sandmire

Time is about up! We will offically close the registration process for the 2010 Heritage Rally--New Braunfels, Texas at "close of business" [right, like we all work] on Wednesday Sept 15. The response for this rally has been incredible with almost 80 coaches now registered. We only have a few sites left with water and 50 amp electric. Once these are gone, we will still have some back-up sites available but with water and 30 amp electric only.

Also, several people have asked about the impact of Tropical Storm Hermine on south Texas in general and the Heritage Rally in particular. We did get quite a bit of rain in the area as TS Hermine passed over, but things are now pretty much back to normal. Our campgrounds and the key tourist locations in New Braunfels were largely unaffected. The same goes for the River Walk in San Antonio and the various points of interest in the Hill Country. So no need to worry--all the activities we are planning for you are ready and waiting for your arrival.

See y'all in Texas,

Dean and Jan Sandmire

Currently, 75 coaches are scheduled to participate in this year's Heritage Rally. Since we did not secure prior approval to release individual attendee names, we will not be making their names public. Besides, seeing who is at the rally when you arrive is part of the fun--safe travels to all.

*ditto* Y'all coming from the West, plan a stop at Buckhorn Lake Resort exit 501. Then it's just a short drive to L&L. See you there.
