Lots of discussion on this topic on the forum..try using the search function and use "f104" in the string.....you have 2003 Alpine, do you have a 350 or 400 Cummins? Makes a difference base on size of alignment cone in rear of canister. Air filter for the 400ISL is…..AF25549 at Cummins....Don't know number of filter for 350 but it is a different size opening for alignment cone. Using 350 filter on 400 engine can/will dust your engine!!!
PS--should be around $85-90 at Cummins--heard of owners pay as much as $150 at NAPA or on internet!!!!!!

Replaced mine awhile back. Took the S/N off the engine plate and went to NAPA and they looked it up. Cost was about $60. When I inspected the old one I noticed that the only area that was really dirty was the surface in contact with the vent tube. This begged the question as to whether the filter needs to be replaced or just rotated so that air is passing through a clean surface. Of course, I may not understand the way that air is circulating through the compartment.

Mocha,

I had this discussion yesterday with the tech at Cummins when they replaced mine. He said that the compounds in the filter paper degrade over time too so it's not just about how dirty the filter gets. I rotate mine about once a year and have replaced it twice now in 5 years of ownership. No dusted engine for me.

Janet and Todd,

Thanks for the input. It does make sense since it is subjected a very hot environment. I always learn something new on this forum.
