Allison Filters and Transynd

I'm at the point of changing my trans fluid and filters. The Cummins dealer here in town didn't have the filters in stock for the shallow pan, go figure. He also wants $46 a gal. for Transynd, that ain't happening. If he'd had the filters I might have just bit the bullet and bought it all and gotten it over with. Since he didn't have them I figured I'd post here and see where you guys are getting your filters and fluid. I can put off the fluid change for a week or so if I order on line, besides I can use the break.


Looks like I need kit #29545776 for the 2" pan and 4 gals of fluid?

I have always bought a 5 gallon pail of Transynd. Have a little left over, but less expensive than buying by the gallon. If fluid is warm when draining, has taken more than just 4.0 gallons.

Thanks, any suggestions as to where to buy? I don't mind having some left over so the 5 gals would be a good choice.

Have you checked Valley Power Systems. I have found the Allison distributors to have the best pricing on Transynd and should have filters also. I will say that most motorhomes seem to have the 4" pan.

I have helped three friends service there Alpines with Allison 3000 transmissions and they all had 2" pans, and my 2001 also has a 2" pan.

Agree--2 inch pan, and 4 gals has always done it for me....make sure you get the "extended duty" filters so you can fluid test and extend your change period--eg, three years on the filters, year to year testing on the fluid.....

That's what I did the last time I did the Allison. And as Brett says, there is some left over. Since I don't have a solid history on the rig I'll do a filter and fluid next.


Both our Dutch Stars have had the 2" pan. Need to check the 4000 in the Magna to be sure what it has.

Terry - Another confirmation here about the pan depth...2". The best price I could find when I put in Syn Gard (Valvoline's product name for TranSynd) was at Napa...$41/gal when purchasing 5 gal. I buy filters at filterbarn.com.

Mine took 18 quarts the last time I had it changed. I watched the tech fill it with 16 quarts, then I had to add two more before the electronic shifter showed full. Maybe I had a good drain? I don't know why there are so many different experiences. The filter kit said I would need 17 quarts if I remember correctly and the Allison distributor said I would need 20.

Your experience reflects mine. Have changed a couple of 3000 filter/fluids. Always ended up with 1-2 quarts left over from a 5 gallon pail of Transynd.

Thanks for the help. Mine has the 2" pan as well. Funny thing, the guy at Cummins said 9 out of 10 he sells are deep pan kits. He even checked my numbere with Allison to make sure it was the 2".
