Allison Transmission Shifting Update

I have a 2005 Alpine Coach, Cummins 400HP. I was reading in one of the RV magazines about available shift pattern updates for the Allison transmission. I can’t remember which RV magazine it was in. My coach seems to downshift way too much on only small inclines on the expressway. I’m talking very small inclines, just on rolling expressways.

My old 2002 Alpine Coach, 350 HP would just love to write up the hills without any downshifting at all. I talked Allison a while back - well, maybe two years ago - and they said they had worked with WRV and this was the best shift pattern for the weight and HP, etc., etc.

Does anyone have any information regarding an update for the shift pattern?

Does it downshift if you have it in economy mode?

Yes, It downshifts in the economy Mode. Allison told me that anytime it was in cruse control it was in the economy mode - period.

2005 Alpine Coach, 400HP Cummins
Here is what I am looking for.
Has anyone had there shift points changed by Allison?
I just got off the phone with Allison and Clark Detroit Diesel-Allison, Inc. in Cincinnati, OH -- they say I can have the shift points re-programed but it would be helpful if anyone else has had this done and can give us their information.
So -- That is what I am looking for.
Thanks

Possibly on yours, but not on ours. I have tried it both ways and there is a definate difference between mode on and off with the cruise on. If it is programmed that way it's certainly in the monority.

I agree with Mr_D, mine does not automatically select economy mode when the cruise control is on. I definitely notice a difference in shift points between normal and economy mode which I select manually. If I am doing 60mph and hit a hill, in normal mode it will downshift when the speed drops to 55mph but in economy mode it will drop to 50mph before shifting down. I believe it is the shift points in economy mode that are programmed to meet the manufacturer's requirements not normal mode.

Folks, we've had some off topic posts, but The OP's main question is;

"Does anyone have any information regarding an update for the shift pattern?"

Thanks!

My Allison transmission was reprogrammed by the previous owner to make it shift faster in hills. I would not recommend it but it does not seem to hurt the transmission. The reprogramming is easy to do for a qualified Allison Service department. I run my transmission in the Economy Mode most of the time and it has not been reprogrammed. The economy mode definitely responds different than the standard mode with cruise on so for my Mh I would say that cruise does not affect the Economy mode.
