Just a reminder for the heating season.
The factory CO detector in my 04 Alpine had an expiration date of 2006/2007.
It's hard wired, easy to replace and readily available (~$80). Worth checking the expiration date before buying to avoid one that's been "shelved" too long.

Jim & Mary Jo, thanks for the reminder. Mine is an 05 & probably has the same expiration. I have never looked at it.
Thanks again.

It is common for CO detectors to have this. The ones I have seen have a 5 to 7 year expiration date (usually from date of manufacture). I believe it has to do with the sensor having a finite life. The newer ones I have bought all say (in the manual) that they will beep at you when they are about to expire, though I don't know about the ones installed in 2004-5.

I just retired an older one I bought in 2001. I believe it did not have the feature that beeped when it was about to expire.

Thanks J&M.

We never knew this. Our 2000's surely has expired. Glad we haven't.

I'm changing it this weekend.
