Alpine/Vansco quirk

Just a poll from the Alpine owners.

My 2004 36 FDS and my neighbor's 2004 36 MDS, both have this same quirk--when the battery chassis disconnect is first turned back ON to reconnect the chassis power, the windshield wipers will go through a single cycle. Happens every time on both of our coaches. I suspect it's a quirk in the Vansco system as the wiper control in on the Smart Wheel which, I believe, runs through the Vansco.

So, our of curiosity, how many others have this same quirk, and do any pre-Vansco owners have it as well? Of course, if someone has a "cure," that would be greatly appreciated.

Not on my 05FDS...I reset a lot since I only use ours a few times a year currently.
Maybe a 04 quirk, I understand that the Vansco programming changed a few times over the years. I also seem to remember reading that not all of the 04's even had the Vansco.

Nor our '97. Then some have bypassed the Vansco, say if there were smart wheel problems.

Not on our 2005.

The 2005 VMM schematic shows the wipers on the PDM, outputs #12 a-b-c.

My '04 does it. Not every time, but it seems to be after it has sat with the power off for a few weeks. Mine has the Vansco.

Now that I think about it, mine may not be every time but the chassis batteries are usually only turned OFF for storage. It’s looking to be a 2004 thing at this early stage.

Certainly doesn't happen on my 1998 pre-Vansco Alpine.

This same anomaly happens every time on our 2009. I have gotten in the habit of pulling the wipers out before engaging the chassis power, so they don't dry wipe.

Interesting that it happens on such a late year model. Yep, I do the same with the wipers when I am about to turn on the chassis power. Hate that dry wipe!

Thanks for the input.

It turns out ours does activate the wipers. When we had it stored without electricity, I would disconnect the chassis batteries. Either I went to the coach alone or, if the DW was with me she was probably getting things out of the car, so neither of us noticed the wipers. It hard to see them from the battery bay. I did always notice that the door step would retract, as it was usually left out for easier access in a quick visit without the need to power up.

We picked it up from Amazing Creations last month and noticed the wipers when Scott flipped the battery switch. He just said “Yep” so it may occur on some other coaches unbeknownst to their owners.

...interesting--my 2003 Alpine will periodically cycle the wipers under various circumstances and it DOESN'T have Vansco....yet another mystery of life, I guess????

Weird.
Any chance it's intentional....designed to be like some kind of little load test to verify operation?

From the responses, it's anyone's guess IMO. Some do, some don't, year of manufacture doesn't seem to matter, happens on pre and post vansco coaches.

Since posting, I am fully aware of the quirk so I always pull the wipers away when first turning on the chassis switch. Still, sometimes it doesn't happen. I wonder if it is more common that we imagine, but most have never witnessed it so don't suspect it occurs.

One thing I haven't tested is if it happens two or three times in a row if I immediately turn OFF the chassis switch and turn it ON again. I may experiment with it sometime just to satisfy my curiosity.

Oh well, just another thing to love about these coaches.
