Baja Caravan 2007

Time to start booking.
Our choices are to start in mid to late October, so participants can be back in Chula Vista, CA for the Nov. 9-11 Alpine SoCal rally, or to start south the morning of Nov. 12. I'm sure we have potential caravaners who want to hit Chula Vista & be back home by Thanksgiving. Baja RV parks will not be as crowded in Oct.

We will be scheduling side trips to some of Baja's famous cave paintings, museums, missions, etc., as well as more food and margarita options than sensible people would consider decent. Maybe a kayak trip, a jeepy sort of trip to San Javier or other mountain "day" destinations. And of course a day in the Baja desert to examine the bizarre plant life, & some days on the beach to just wander & stare at the aquamarine water.

We will travel slow, i.e. not full days on the road, and start with a Baja orientation meeting in southern CA before crossing the border. Probably 200 miles would be the longest day. We will plan to stay together at least to Loreto (~725 miles south of the border, and the original Capital of the Californias BTW), with options to split up at least on the way back (or sooner if you don't behave). Our furthest southward RV park will be in or near La Paz, a beautiful town. From La Paz, Los Cabos is 1.5 to 2 hours south for easy day trip visits (I hear the road from LP to Cabo is bad & getting worse, so for first timers I think toad tripping is the way to see Land's End; if we get better intel, maybe we'll take the rigs all the way).

We'll take about 3 weeks for the down & back, including enough time to stop & smell the cacti. So as not to clog up this thread w/individual scheduling chatter, please PM me with your name in the subject line, preference as to before or after the Chula Vista Rally, any hard date constraints that would affect your attendance, and your contact data. Info about insurance, permits, and the like will be forthcoming once dates are set (plenty of time for that stuff). I'm shooting for 15 rigs or less so we have a manageable herd, so first come first served. 14 spots left as of this post.

This will not be an ACA event, sorry to say. They insure locations, and this is more of an open road deal, and not to mention not in the USA. Nor is it a commercial venture; just friendly folks out for a Sunday drive thru Baja.

ACA Albuquerque Rally Oct 9 - 14
SoCal Chula Vista Rally Nov 9 - 11

We are currently at East Cape RV Park in Los Barriles, having driven the road Mex Hwy-1 down from La Paz today. Much of the road is now 4 lane. The rest is challenging but not that bad in our 40 FDTS Alpine towing a Jeep Grande Cherokee.
This RV Park is the best we have stayed in since we entered Mexico at Juarez/El Paso 3 weeks ago - good water, real 30 amp 120 volt electricity to run washer/dryer and electric HydroHot, pool, hot tub, sewer hookup, Wi-Fi internet at your site, and a block from the incredible beach with lots of local activities including fishing, snorkeling, horseback riding, quadrunner desert trips, restaurants, etc.

You should consider this place. It is only 65 miles past La Paz.

Snug- Thanks for the suggestion; I'll check it out. From El Paso to La Paz in 3 weeks means you are not letting any moss grow on the shady side of your rig!

So far we have a complement of 9 coaches signed up. That should be enough for a great time, but not so many that the Federales start shaking us down as illegal immigrants. I'll send out the first organizational email in a coupla days.
