Had our recently purchased 1998 into Cummins yesterday for servicing - got oil and filters done on engine, generator and tranny (also lube)--- but they suggested we change the air filter (they would have but couldn't fine an AF1867 in a 50 mile radius) so I found a Baldwin PA2751 that is the equivalent (or so it says). Any feedback on Baldwin air filters? We got this thing with 31 thou + on it and I don't think the people ever had it serviced --- thank goodness we knew enough to take a used rig in for a service call. No damage to anything but tranny was REALLY
dirty - air filter looks like he went through a dust storm - and we have a small oil leak that we will get fixed RIGHT away --- (we got a good price on the rig and hopefully this is all small stuff to go through) Rides like a dream - got the fridge recall stuff taken care of at Uhlman's so that is good to go too - Thanks to all on this forum for putting up with newbies -

I was in the Filter business for a great many years and will offer:

1. All Air filters are tested according to the same SAE standard, which believe is still J726.
2. Baldwin has been around a long time and has gained a reputation for reliabilty and performance.
3. Cummins air filters are made by Fleetguard (owned by Cummins, as is Nelson).
3. All Oil filters are tested using SAE J806 standards.
4. All Hydraulic elements are tested using OSU Multi-pass standards.

Summary:
An Air or Oil element made by the big guys (Baldwin, Nelson, Fleetguard, Lubefiner, Purolator, etc.) are very competitive in their ability to perform.

Hydraulic elements are considerably different than Oil elements and are usually much finer than either Air or Oil filters. This is necessary because the tight tolerances of Hydraulic pumps and motors are such that particles smaller than what is removed by Air or Oil elements can and will cause damage.

The long and short of this is:

You should be fine using Baldwin elements.

I frequently use Baldwin filters. Looked into them (specs and performance) prior to first use and found them to be equivalent to Fleetguard.

I normally use baldwin and racor filters for both my Alpine and chev truck diesel. Most fleets are using them or fleetguard filters.
I order mine from B-line filter and supply in Odessa Tx (800) 594-5606. Prices are good and always have them in stock. Trans filter kit (both filters) is 44.50 and fuel filteer is 16.00. Found it locally - had two in stock - went and picked it up after work yesterday - just under $60 - and got it installed last night - of course easy to change out --- started the MH up and we could hear it take in a big breath with the clean filter in place (just kidding) but I'm sure the new filter makes the engine feel better. Getting ready for a Memorial Day break-in run to Alder Lake camp grounds for the weekend. Short jaunt locally to check things out - I still have to make a June schedule with Ulhman's to get a few little things fixed. Last trip did some electrical troubleshooting. They tightened all the battery terminals down REALLY tight and some of the connections in the invertor were loose too - I think that will cure all of our battery charging problems. Excellent service at Uhlman's. Excellent service at Cummins in Chehalis.
