Here is another internet company that is selling the Banks kit for about $500 less than it was from Banks. Same kit.

Banks 49297 PowerPack System - Cummins ISC 8.3L MH

I looked at the Banks site last night and saw that the ISC kit was no longer listed.

The Allison 3000MH is the same one used behind the ISL 450/1250. So uprating an ISC to 431/1200 shouldn't be a problem.

I don't think the comment about

Dennis was it you that called Allison and was told "we don't recommend it but have never heard of a failure"? I know I read that somewhere in my research but can't find the post.
was mine, I've seen it posted though.

Only a fool would think that Banks would leave a tried and true ISC out on a limb over a module! Keep the faith!

It is not true that the 3000MH transmission is the same on all ISC models. When the ISC was introduced on the Alpine Coach in 1999 it used the same MD3060 as used on the C engine. The 350hp version used the uprated MD3066 as the MD3060 was not rated for 350hp. The 3000MH was introduced in 2000 and later versions of the coach used this on both ISC and ISL engines. However, the 3000MH has slowly been upgraded during this period so it is not safe to assume a 2000 model transmission can handle 425hp as does a 2012 version. The only safe thing to do when considering a power upgrade is call Allison with the serial number and ask them what the power input rating is for that specific unit.

The issue is does a 3000MH transmission fitted to an ISC in 2000 handle 450hp.

NO!! I found another PDF I downloaded in 2005
It was 400 HP and 1200 torque

So it is possible a 2000 could have a little less then that.

On the other hand it only adds from 40-60 HP and 130-140 ft lb of torque at the rear wheels.

Cummins measure that HP at the flywheel. Which is much more then what is on the rear wheel, where Banks measure. I don't have the ISC info from Banks test.

But do have Banks on a ISB rear wheel
Cummins rated ISB at 275 HP & 660 ft lb
Banks stock ISB test 216.8 HP & 556 ft lb
Banks Powerpack test 280 HP & 670 ft lb

So the Banks kit on the ISB gains 5 HP & 10 ft lb over Cummins flywheel rating. On a 350 HP ISC it might end up with 370-380 HP at the most.

If I had a 2000 ISC I wouldn't have a problem putting a Powerpack on a 3000MH Allison of that year.
And how often would you ever hit the peak HP which is usually at peak RPM.

Banks wouldn't have sold it for that year ISC if the tranny couldn't handle it.

They won't sell a Powerpack to be installed on a ISB with the 5 speed Allison.

I found it with a google search.

The Banks power systems for the Cummins ISC.

PowerPack It can increase the power in a stock 350 hp-rated 8.3-liter Cummins ISC diesel up to a calculated 431 hp measured at the flywheel or, in the real world, from 279 hp up to 345 hp at the drive wheels.

It is the flywheel rating that matters as this is the input power to the transmission, not the rating at the drive wheels.

When was the last time on any RV forum, did you read about anyone with a ICS?
Complain the Banks Powerpack power cause their Allison 3000MH to be broken.

I don't remember of seeing one. Not that there hasn't been any.
It may lose that extra 31 HP(from the 431 HP not 450) when going through the converter, before it gets to the transmission.

IMOA it is a non issue for putting a Powerpack in a 2000 ICS. But it is your right to believe otherwise.

ICS? Who makes that one?

Here is the Banks HP/torque charts, the black line is the 400 HP ISL, the red line is the ISC 350 with PowerPack.

The difference isn't so much the peak gain, but in the much wider HP/torque band.
The stock ISC 350 has 1050 ft lbs ONLY at 1400 rpm. With the Banks it never gets that low till 2100 rpm.
Also, the Cummins/Allison programming limits the engine output in 1st and 2nd gears as full power might be too much.

Per Banks on Monday Oct. 29, the Power Pack kit for the ISC 350 is discontinued permanently. They no longer can obtain the module and they can't justify the expense of designing/sourcing a new module for an engine that is 10+ years old. I hope this info is not correct, as I'd really like to add the kit to my coach. I've searched the country this week, and have been unable to locate the kit anywhere, except for someone on eBay that lists a kit for $8300... I've also wondered about the advisability of purchasing the last available kit should I find one... if the module is DOA or fails, I'd really be up the creek!!
