Batteries discharging when on shore power

Bill, I suspect that your remote panel looks like this, if not do not follow these instructions. Press the "Function" button until you get this screen.

If it does not say "Enabled" press enter until it does. If it does say "Emabled" the charger is set up to charge and it is something else. Let me know what you see.

Interesting--but since the inverter is charging the bats on genset--I doubt if the inverter menu selection discussed above is the issue......still pointing toward the [new] x-fer switch or the surge protector as the issue...

Has this problem occurred at multiple campgrounds? If the wiring at the campground is wrong, the 458 will refuse to charge. If I remember correctly, it will also refuse to pass AC through to its downstream circuits (the microwave oven in my case). Replacing the campground circuit with the generator AC solves the problem and it charges just fine.

oldscout - I wasn't suggesting substituting a Trik-L-Charge for the converter...was just trying to clarify what they are. Echo charge is used to maintain the engine batteries on older Alpines...Trik-L-Charge is designed to do the same thing as the Echo except they are less expensive.

Steve--understand--my 03 has what I assume is a bi-directional echo charger, used mostly to charge the chassis bats once the house bats are approaching/reached a fully charged state. Point here is that OP's house bats arent charging--trickle or echo chargers would take forever [almost] to recover discharged house bats....To keep his house bats charged, he really needs to figure out what is up with his shore power/inverter connection so he can utilize the 100+ DC charging amps available thru the inverter..
