Bed Platform

I am curious about engine access under the bed in my '05 40fdts. Is there engine access if I remove the bed platform? Do I need to cut a hole in the platform? It looks like there are a couple of spots that are pieced in.

I have to admit I haven't given it more than a glance, that was when we changed mattresses, but I'm doing fluids and other things and am trying to find my way around the various nooks and crannies.

Thanks, Terry

My platform lifts up on hinges. Look for a latch under the platform at the foot of the bed. I have to prop mine open with a stick. So it lifts up on two sets of hinges. The mattress by it's self and the platform plus the mattress on another set.

The 40 ft Alpine does not have engine access under the bed.
There is a removable panel on the floor between the bed and the closet.

Terry,

What Jim said!

Taking the bed apart will only provide access to the slide frame & mechanism. You should observe that screw heads are visible on the "step-up" platform along the back side of the bed. Service providers such as Cummins & Freightliner actually put the rear slides out and remove that platform cover to gain rear engine access.
