Bed Slide comes in at bottom, stays out at top
We have to sit on the foot of the bed to bring the slide in. We took the mattress off and opened a panel near the foot of the bed to see if we could see anything obvious. There is a plate with two bolts in it. The bolts have no nuts on them and it pulls right off. There are shims under that plate. I don't see any nuts laying in the rail below the plate. I also don't see how to get new nuts on the underside of this plate. Do you think this is the cause of the behavior of the slide?

This assembly also slides on the rail.

Further examination disclosed that the bolts have been sheared off in the black part of the slide rail. I'll post another photo when Janet returns with the iPhone.

The sheared bolts are circled.

I am going through our coach and cleaning everything up right now. How far should the bedroom slide on the passenger slide of a 40FDTS extend? There seems to be room for it to go out further (gap between the inner edge and the wall. I have pushed the switch to extend and it simply goes out to where it's at with no noise or irregular shakes or anything like that.
Thanks in advance.

All owners end up asking that very same question. The vanity slide utilizes a scissor jack type mechanism. It will not go "flush" around the wood trim like the other slides. There's nothing wrong with the slide.

Bed Slide comes in at bottom, stays out at top
Janet and Todd, if you scroll down about 20 posts you will find one titled “Bedroom Slide Access” that has a couple of pictures of our coach with the bed platform removed. They should help you figure this out.

Remember those bolts sheared for a reason, you need to find out what caused that problem, not just replace the bolts, lubricate the slides.

bcbowers,
Thanks for that! I figured as much when it seemed to be good to go, but just wanted to check. We're newbies, so still learning all the ins and outs.

We had the same problem. Replaced bolts with case harden bolts, lubricated the rail and have had no problems since. When re-assembly, I re-mounted the bolts in the same place the old bolts were, as they left a mark on the rail from the origional install. It's been 2 years and no problem since.

....had the set screws that hold the ram inside the slide mechanism come loose [previous warranty work that failed]. Had to take the two bolts out [those in question] and disconnect ram piston from outer edge of slide so I could tip out the slide to make the repair. Doubt if many owners have seen their bed-slide in this position. I realize the direction from HWH is to hold the close button down a second or two to pressurize ram and hold slide in place while traveling--but repeatedly holding the button for more than a second will eventually put a lot of pressure on the ram mounting bolts--perhaps even shear them off at some point--humm?????

Jim, did you use an easy out to remove the bolt ends from the plate? How did you know how much to tighten the new bolts?
Dean, those pics of yours look too darn scary.

Yup--it looks scary but the metal flanges on the sides of the slide wont let it fall out of the wall opening. I forgot to mention that you have to retract the disconnected ram before you tilt the slide and bed frame up and out......

I used an easy out to remove the bolts without too much effort. The bolts are snug but not overly tight.
