I would guess most likely a bad new part. After you replace it again, have someone check that your brake lights are all good as maybe one is shorted causing this problem. I also had to install a brake light converter next to the plug for the toad. To combine my turn signal and brake to one bulb. My toad was a Jeep and the turn and brake were the same bulb. My 2000 was wired for a Subaru which has separate bulbs for turn and brake. Let us know what happens? Good luck.

We just had the same idea. Wired wrong! This all started, thinking back, when the new/used jeep was wired by an outfit in Dallas.
Soon as we get back to it will let you know.

new part

New brake light switch is in and working great. Apparently they wired the Jeep wrong.

Thanks to all for the replies.
