Hello Alpine4Us:

I have never used the SMI but I have used the M&G. I can not say enough about how good it is and that I have now swapped it to the third vehicle myself. I have never had a problem with it and it always works. No electrical to hook up, no battery drain, just connect an air line and it is ready to go.

I've got the M&G system and love it. Hooking up the breaking system takes about 20 seconds. I've got the break-away back-up system too and the 20 seconds includes hooking that up as well. The M&G system could be a real bear to install for a DIY'er though. I've no experience with the SMI so can't make a comparison.

We have the SMI Silent Partner. It has served us very well. Ours is wireless as I believe the Air Force is also. The only thing we hook up is the tow bar, breakaway switch and throw the switch on the vacuum pump. We have three choices for brake application. 1.Latched......MH brakes activated, toad brakes are activated.
2. toad brakes are applied accordingly to MH deceleration.
3. Toad brakes can be applied independently.

I installed it myself.

IIRC you must be sure that the M&G system will fit between the master cylinder and power booster. On our PT we had no room for the M&G.

I agree with what Dave & Jeff said.

If M & G makes one for your vehicle, you just can't go wrong.

Best to you - Glenn

We have an M&G and love it. Fast and easy to hook and unhook.
Never had an SMI system.

Have the M&G systems on both of my Jeeps. I transferred the MH part of their system from my class C to my present coach. Very satisfied with braking performance and ease of use. Have used the same system since 1996. Basically simple and bulletproof design. M&G is a good company when you need customer service or updates!

Never had an SMI
