Cabinet Doors

Does anyone have an idea why motorhomes are equipped with cabinet doors that hinge at the top instead of the sides?

I'm thinking about Danny's TV cabinet mod for my 2000 36' MDSS and noticed he has one 'upswing' door and a pair of side-by-side doors. Is it because a single door would swing out too far and a single upswing would be less expensive to rig than two side swing doors?

The real reason is probaly because its always been done that way. Same reason that top-hinge basement doors prevail, even tho they are clearly a pain.

Where some gray matter is occasionaly employed, there may be top-hinge cabinet doors that produce less head bangs than side-swings.
