My '05 40 fdts has the Tuscan Maple interior wood work. I am wondering if any of you with the Tuscan have made any additions or modifications that required matching the stain color. I am also wondering if you used something other than maple. The local hardwood and trim company says that maple isn't brought into CA. Bugs or mites or something, who knows.

I am making a couple of modifications and I'd like them to match as closely as possible. Have any of you touched up or modified with good results? I've made a couple of little changes that kinda match and are in places that aren't well lit so the result was OK. Now I'd like a better match than what I've achieved by mixing stains and trial and error and, it's close enough for there.

I am just finishing up my a/v upgrade. I had to make some trim pieces and shelves. I have the Tuscan maple interior also. I had the local paint store match the stain using a sample I brought in. It really matched well. I can give you the base and formula if you like. I am at work and don't have it with me.

As for wood species I used maple for the trim parts and the panel I had to make was a birch veneer. The birch plywood I bought had some dark areas but I was able to cut around them. I think you also might be able to get by with European Beech. It is much cheaper than maple too.

My '04 coach has the Tuscan maple finish on the cabinets as well. I have bought plenty of maple from Home Depot here in CA. Never had a problem finding it! Austin's Hardwoods in Santa Ana sells good quality maple plywood as well. I built bathroom cabinets in my house out of it. They also stock maple mouldings of various types. I got some 1" bullnose stock when I made my steps.

I took a sample of my cabinet doors and the bare maple to Rockler, and they helped me match the finish. I use General Finishes Maple oil based stain for the color, and then use the General Finishes High Performance Satin Water Based Topcoat.

Technique has a lot to do with it as well. I use 220 grit sandpaper for my finish sand, and wipe the stain on with a cloth. I have a HVLP sprayer from Rockler for the topcoat, but I have brushed it as well. Using courser grit sandpaper will yield a somewhat darker color. (The finish is a little darker than it appears in the picture, pretty close to the cabinets.)

My projects are pretty small scale, I'm no cabinet maker. But I would like things to match if possible. I will check HD and some other wood work supply places. I'll also drag a drawer front or something to the paint place and see if they can mix up a stain.

I was surprised when they told me no maple in CA, but it's a local reputable shop and I took them at their word.
