Even with my poor typing skills and a dial-up connection the form was easily done in about 5 minutes

We filed our complaint yesterday, and as Lyle and Cath said, Alpine Coach was listed as a model under Western. NHTSA must have updated the list based on the number of responses.

We also have filed a complaint. They do have the Alpine Coach/Western available so they are hearing from enough of us to make them notice.

I tried the static test (same thing we did @ DRR8 for the 30 coaches) with my prototype stiffener bracket-bracket, and the steering bracket hardly moves at all

I'll have the rig on out tomorrow for a road test on our way to the SoCal rally in Plymouth, CA, and will check out how it works ITRW

For what its worth, I checked out the steering bracket on my 2001 with 70,000 miles and found that it had cracks in the welds. The bracket is made out of 1/4 plate with a 5/16 plate steel stiffeners welded on the inside. I have a 2 1/2 inch crack on the aft and a 1 3/4 inch crack on the forward side where the stiffener is welded to the bracket. Both of these cracks are on the frame side of the bracket. After cleaning with a wire brush it appears that the welds were not hot enough to flow into the 5/16 plate. I don't know if grinding and rewelding will solve the problem or not. I do have some give in the bracket, but not much.
