In a 34' 2005 I am in the process of changing my two TV's to the thin LCD units. Both of my originals were the old huge units. My front TV sits in a heavy gauge metal frame which is bolted to the cabinets on either side. From all appearances that is what is holding it up. I don't see any other way that it is attached. Has anyone changed a unit like this? If so, would you be kind enough to share with me if anything else is holding the TV up. I believe someone mentioned that there may be brackets on the top of the TV that go across and mount to the top of the cabinets. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. We can eliminate removing the front of the motorhome from some of my helpful friends.

Ted,
We to are in the process of changing our tv in our 05 40ft. That heavy metal frame is what holds the tv, the tv will just lift out. We are having our son rebuild a bracket to hold the new flat screen, and build a cabinet frame around the tv. We took out the frame and attached a bracket to the sides of the cabinets which are metal. We also have to patch in front of the window to install full front shades. The ones we had were smaller because of the tv sticking out in back. We will be in Branson and this project should be completed by then.

Ted- our TV is mounted on angle iron brackets. They (1 on each @ 1/3rd point more or less of the back of TV) use the OEM threaded insert holes on back of TV for mounting the appliance, & use the other leg of the bracket to mount to the ceiling of the cabinet. The brackets are simply angle iron cut @ 45 degrees & welded to a 90 degree bracket. IMO these allow too much vibration (tho not wildly critical; I'd add a 45 degree brace to stiffen the 90 degree bracket to make it less springy; maybe a 1/8" x 1" strap).

You could easily use the OEM threaded inserts to make a mount from side to side instead of mounting up to ceiling, or buy a prefab mounting bracket from Circuit City, Fry's, RC Willey, Best Buy, etc., then modify it to spread to the sides of cabinet.

I replaced both CRT TV's in my 2001 36MDDS.
I found that a Vizio 26" would fit up front between the cabinet doors. I added a 3/4" piece of oak plywood across the opening for the tv and added a hinge about 4" down from the top.
I also added a 1.5" aluminum bracket on the back side of the hinge and bent it into a U shape that went down the side of the cabinet towards the front of the coach. This gave good support to the hinge while bouncing down the road with the TV hanging to the board. The hinge allows me to swing the TV up to give us some more storage! I did the same thing in the bed room, but put the hinge on the right side and added a tilt mount so you can tilt the tv down to get a better picture while laying on the bed.

Thanks for the info. It is exactly what I wanted. I was fairly certain that the four bolts going through the steel cage is what was holding everything up. The methods of mounting up the new TV is greatly appreciated.

Ray & Chris, I have yet to remove my front TV. I understand that you just lift it out. That TV is a brute and the angle at which you have to hold it is terrible. It appears because of the angle that it is positioned in that the top front of the TV has some clearance which I assume you lift up and wiggle the tv forward. Is that about correct?

Yes, we had a Toshiba tv and you are right it is a brute. You have to try to raise the bottom up over the front lip, and then it will slide out. Do watch those fingers because it is tight. We replaced it with a Sharp, had our son build a cabinet to match our natural cherry wood, and add a piece in back so we can now put up our full window shades. I would send a picture if I could figure out how to do it. Will you be in Branson?

Ray and Chris:

To upload your photos:

1. Go to the top of any forum page. In the top blue band is the word PHOTOS. Click it.

2. You will have to register, just like you had to register for the forum. You can use the same username and password, if you like. This will give you permission to upload photos.

3. Once you are into the Photo area, you will have the opportunity to make your own albums, look at others, etc. However, to upload your pictures, go to the second blue band where you will see UPLOAD PHOTOS. Click it.

4. You will see a BROWSE button. Click it. You will be able to navigate on you computer to select the photo(s) you want.

5. After you upload your photos, a moderator will have to approve your photos before they are viewable on the website. You will see an icon saying PENDING (approval). Once it is approved (10 minutes to 10 hours), you can then add it to your posts (or name or signature, etc.)

6. To add it to a post, when you are writing your message, select the button at the top of the dialog box that says URL. That is where the file name for your picture is entered. (It's long.) The best way to get the exact filename is to look at your picture in the PHOTO section, right-click it, select Properties, highlight the full filename, copy it (Ctrl+C), go back to your post and paste it (Ctrl+V) into the URL box at the top of the post dialog box.

7. To control the size of the picture, you will see that part of the file name will include the word "thumb" or "medium", depending on which picture you right-click. If you right-click the picture while it is small, it will say thumb, if you right-click the picture while it is displayed in a bigger box, it will say medium. While you are entering the URL in the post dialog box, you can just change the word from "thumb" to "medium" or vice versa (type it right in). Though I haven't tried it yet, you can also use small and large too.

Hope this helps. I just did trial and error to make it work.
