Chassis Batteries

I have a 1998 36SDS. I read in the specs that the original coach came with one 1400 cca chassis battery. It now has two 1000 cca batteries. Did the 1998 have only one chassis battery from the manufacturer?

I can't confirm it, but I'm sure the specs are correct. The singl 1400 amp battery would have been an 8D for cranking the engine.
Because of the size and shape of the battery tray I assume the original house battery was also an 8D deep cycle battery.

My 1998 36 had 2 8D batteries when I bought it 2 years ago. I have since replaced the house 8d with 2 6v golf cart batteries.

I wish I had also replaced the 8D engine battery with 2 1000 amp batteries like you have. Then I could have added 2 more 6v golf cart batteries to double the capacity of the house bank.
My house bank with only the 2 golf cart batteries does not have sufficient capacity.

See the post by daveshan in the thread "1998 Battery Tray" for a description.
That seems to be the best configuration we can get in the 24"x 24" original battery tray.

Hope that's not too confusing.
