OK - I checked my coach today. The batteries are hooked up in parallel, so I'm wrong about that, must have been thinking about the heavy cranes we used at work, know they were either air start or 24V. Big batteries though, and bigger than the house ones, someone said group 31, so that must be it.

I got Exide Commercial size 31 at Tractor Supply Company for about $100 each a year ago. They are connected in parallel for 12 volts and work well.
