dash fan motor controls 1998 36fds

Working with the dash ac/heater fan on 1998 36fds speed 1 and 2 and sometimes 3 speed would work intermitantly, high, never. Found the high speed fuse and relay, the fuse calls for a 25 and it had a blown 10 in the holder. Replaced with a 25 and the high speed runs fine and I let it run for 30 minutes or so. Now, no other speed works. Is there a resistor bank somewhere behind the controls, if so, pray tell, how do you get to it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look up under the outside cap, on the passenger side, with the genset slide out, on the bulk-head, near the top, below the windshield/dash. But not sure what you are describing is a resistor pack issue, except maybe the plug-in/connector. Sounds more like fan motor or the control knob on the dash....but resistor pack is common and cheap-try it.

Old Scout,

Thanks for the location of the resistors, the motor seems to be
okay, ran it for 30 minutes or so, turned on and off 2-3 times
Any suggestions on how to access the fan controls? Looks like removing the center console..

Thanks to "old scout" and "Polo man" and the local NAPA store the fan for the dash is repaired by replacing the control speed switch Napa part HC104 $17.14.
The contacts on the old switch were corroded and had appparantly high heat, so probably the fan motor is next...but not today.

FWIW, the fan came out of a 1999 - 2000 Ford Econoline van according to NAPA. They can match it up although the external ground connection had to be modified (IIRC) slightly.
