Dash removal

I need to replace my smart wheel controller on my 2003 mid door. I can't squeeze myself into a workable position. Should I remove the drivers seat or will removing the arched gauge housing on top of the dash make more sense?
If I need to remove the gauge housing, how would I do it. I think i read that it is held in place with velcro, but I don't want to start prying on it unless I know that velcro is the only attachment. What would you do?

I took this picture of a chassis (FMCA???Sue in the background) in August 2005 and the Smart Wheel controller was on the passenger side behind removable panel, not driver side. Same in 2003?

Thanks for the reply. When I shove my head under the dash at the steering wheel, I am fairly certain that what I see is the smart wheel controller. I just can't get in there to work on it without removing the top of the dash or the drivers seat. Anyone know how to remove the gauge hump part of the dash on an 03?

Thanks,
Frank

Same in '04, which still does not answer the question unfortunately. But who knows what they moved when the implemented the Vansco system in '04. But I would definitely look there first before I took apart the dashboard. The panels below the dash are held in place with Velcro and easily removed.
