Is your gauge part of a cluster or a separate, stand alone gauge? Is it for monitoring alternator output or to show the state of charge of chassis or house batteries? Is it digital or analog? If stand alone style, what's the diameter of the display?

I'd wire the gauge directly to a 12v source to see if the gauge is good or it's a problem with the wiring. Then you can determine if you want to replace or repair.
