Date of Manufacture

I'm considering a 1999 Alpine Coach and would like to know how you find the date of manufacture. There is a date on the chassis, but is there a sticker that indicates when the coach itself was manufactured?

Thanks
Geoff

You should find a plaque or decal next to the drivers seat. It will list GVWR and other info. Here should be your manufactures identification number. Most times the coach is manf same date as the chassis. BTW.

Have you checked in the Alpine Register? This thread is "sticky" and sticks at the top of the Alpine Owner's Forum w/other stickies.
You should be able to estimate date of mfgr there from the versions of the Registry spreadsheet near the end of the postings. Generally motorhomes by convention are titles as a model year of the calendar year after mfgr, e.g. 1999's were mfg'd (generally) in 1998. There are exceptions. I was told by WRV at one point, "we can make it any model year we want when we make up the 'Certificate of Origin.'" This varies somewhat by mfgr, but most follow the next-year convention pretty closely.

BTW,
Hope to see you around regularly!!

On my '99 there is a sticker on the driver's side of the "firewall" just above the fuel fill that you an see once you extend the generator slide. Mine just had its 14th birthday this last November.

I think all alpines have the sticker with the date of manufacture just above the fuel fill on the drivers side firewall.

Another check you may want to do is check the manufacture date of the appliances inside the coach. My VIN plate has a DOM of April 1998 and the VIN shows a '98 model. The microwave has a DOM of February 1998 which matches up with the other info. Your '99 model may have been built shortly after mine.

Is there a reason why this is important to you? Just curious.

The reason I need to know the DOM, is that I'm Canadian and would like to buy an Alpine. In order to import a motorhome it needs to be on the "list" of admissible vehicles and Alpine is not on the list. The only exemption to this rule is if the vehicle is 15+ years old hence the need for a DOM in 1998 !

If you don't think the USA has similar rules you should read this;http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/documents/420b10027.pdf

Remember the manufacturers name was Western Recreational Vehicles, Alpine is the model name, not the company name.

That "list" is no joke for Canadians. We have friends who bought an expensive Class A in the US, got to the border and could not import it. They had to drive back to the dealership and trade it for a truck and fifth wheel. They lost 10's of thousands of dollars. So much for NAFTA.

Adding insult to injury they paid for an extended warranty on the thing. They subsequently had a claim and when submitted to the insurance company they found the dealership had taken their money but never purchased the policy....
