FYI, looking at the five truck stop websites tonight, the highest diesel prices in the country are around $3.30/gal in CT, NY, and WA. Lowest is AZ, at about $2.26/gal. MI and WI are around $2.70-2.80. (Just no stations in the UP.) CA is $2.40-2.90/gal, with the $2.90 station being the closest to me, of course.

Some hints,
1. Join Flying J RV Club and get the Master Card from them. You pay cash price plus get a 1 cent discount. Use that card for fuel only.

2. Become a member of Costco, and if you have a business get the Business Amercan Express card. You get a 5% rebate on gas purchases for a toad up to 75 gallons a month. And 1-3% rebate for everything else including eating out. Nice Rebate check in the spring, which usually pays for all the non-perishable food staples for the year for us.

3. Go to the Pilot, TA, Flying J, CFN, websites and save the links to your computer so you can check what the prices are during the trip.

4. Join Passport America and stay at many campgrounds for half off the normal rate, which will help keep these people in business during the tough times we have currently.

5. Casino's (indian) usually have free areas to camp overnight, (noisy) but free is free. Seven Feathers (Exit 99 I-5 in Oregon) has very nice Pay park, many discounts plus Players Club gets the rate down to 34 if Pull Though, and 29, if back in.

6. Always fill tank when half empty, costs less and you then have about a 1000 mile range in case of emergency. Left Vancouver, WA, and arrived in Redding, CA used 70 gallons so filled up two weeks ago at 2.99 gal.

Flying J, Troutdale, OR you must tack on .24 cents road tax to price, currently it's $2.619 gal. Which is 10 cents less than we paid a week ago.

Hi Monty,
You got it right except for #2. The personal AMEX cash back card has no limit to the amount of fuel and gives the 5% rebate.

I am pretty sure that the personal Costco Amex card pays 3% and you need the business card to get 5%. Every bill warns that an individual purchase (not per month) over 75 gallons or its dollar equivalent will not get the discount. I have been tracking mine using the Amex report which can select fuel purchases and now restrict my purchase to $300 or 50 gallons to avoid not being paid.

It varies in the Riverside CA area from $2.17 to $2.38, more the regular gas by .40 cents or more.
