I filled up two weeks ago at the Flying J in Ehrenberg AZ, diesel was 2.579, I just checked the Flying J website and they are showing 2.379 there now. When we left WA in september, diesel was a bit over $4/gal. So far, fuel has been the only thing coming in under budget!!

Go to www.dieselboss.com and click on the diesel pricing for current reported prices all over the US and Canada. The travel budget is looking better all the time.

The best so far around here is $2.85 at Wal-Mart. Paid $2.86 at my station of choice for $2.86.......seems to be steadily dropping.

Hopefully prices will remain down through the Snowbird season

That $2.379 at the Ehrenberg Flying J is the price the big trucks pay. Auto diesel is $.08 less, or $2.299 (we just drove by there yesterday).

Last Friday I paid $2.659 at the Flying J near Indio, CA on the 10. That was the cash price with a Flying J card.

We keep a running total of our costs from Fresno back to St. Louis.

If we took the trip today and filled up at Flying J's the average price of fuel per gallon would be $2.54. Round trip cost would be $1222.52

In May 2007 the trips fuel cost was $1296.17, averaging $2.69/gallon.

If we would have done the trip this May '08, the fuel cost would have been $2171.70 , $4.51 per gallon.

Our lowest cost that we tracked was $904.23 in April '05, an average of $1.87 per gallon.

This is figured at 8 mpg, which is what we drive for. Seems we drive a little faster the closer we get to St. Louis

Looks like we need to go on a road trip

We live out in our old van. Travel all across this land. Drive until the city lights dissolve into a country sky, me and you - hand in hand.

A few stations in Houston are reported at $2.49.9 for diesel. There are still a few over $3.49.9. Makes no sense.

Everybody probably knows that Flying J, TA, Pilot, Love's, and Petro truck stops have websites that post their diesel prices across the country. I set up my own Microsoft Access database to allow me to copy and paste the webpage data tables into the database, and I can print a list of prices at these major truck stops across the states I will be traveling through. I can print the list sorted various ways, but primarily I sort it by state and interstate highway. I can also sort it by price, but since CA is usually the highest, that is depressing.

Then when we travel, I can usually arrange fuel stops to take advantage of my fuel range and the truck stops, where I know the coach/toad will fit.

Unfortunately the websites change format from time to time, and I have to redo my little program to make their data fit my format again. Therefore I can't really give my database to anybody. But if anybody wants to see the list in PDF format, send me a PM.

Diesel is running around $3.20/gal here in South East Florida. Now you know the reason it is called the gold coast.
