Directions to Desert Rat Rally site in Quartzsite

Hi all,

We just talked to Beth Cannon (Beth and Norm are Rally Hosts for DRR) and she asked that we post this information to iRV2. It was also included in her email of today to all registered attendees:

The Rally Site is on BLM Land. No hookups, but amazing views! Travel north on Highway 95 from the intersection of Main and Highway 95 in Quartzsite, AZ for about 5.7 miles. Turn east on Plomosa Road and travel approximately 3 miles. You will see on your left our Big 60' x 60' White Tent and Alpine coaches parked nearby. Shortly after seeing the tent will be an ACA Sign directing you onto the desert Road. Follow the signs and head for the tent. There will be people to help direct you to a parking site.

**Please bring FIREWOOD for those chilly evenings by the Campfire!

Registrations are still being accepted, there's plenty of room.

Cheers, and "see you there"!

By any chance do you have GPS coordinates to the location, or at least the turn off from 95? Those might help some people.

Unless Mike (or Mike) can provide a more accurate GPS location, my Garmin map program shows that a location 3 miles east on Plomosa road would have an address as follows:

30250 Plomosa Dr
Parker, AZ

Note that the city is Parker, NOT Quartzite according to Garmin.

Coordinates would be:

Longitude -114.170029
Latitude 33.765831

Please remember I am not there, and these are rough coordinates based on the above directions posted by Mike & Mike. But they should get you close if you rely on GPS directions!!

Another sure-fire way to find the location of an Alpine rally is to look for fresh water over-flow splashes on the roadway, starting with the corner/stoplight in Quartzsite. Sorry, inside joke for Alpine owners--can help myself sometimes.

Good point. Some of us fixed that little idiosyncrasy however, so you can't track me that way!

Good Morning Jim and Old Scout!

Jim, one time I took the location info I found on iRV2 and an overhead photo of the Alpine group at QZ and tried to find a similar curve in the road on Google Maps (all very non-technical I assure you). I came up with almost exactly the same coordinates that you typed above.

Here's mine: GPS lat/long is approx.: 33.765832,-114.170524

I guess we'll all find out soon enough!

Cheers!

Thanks Mike,

Looks like I went about 75 feet too far!! I knew I should have marked it back to that junction. First mistake of the year came early this year. Like most years.
