Dirt Devil

Our Dirt Devil central vac doesn't have what we consider good suction. Have any of you changed yours out to some other brand? or a newer model? or just abandoned the whole concept?

Just curious, we like the concept, but it just isn't quite doing it's job.

I don't have a central vac, but I'm thinking of making my own using a Shop Vac. More power...

We abandoned the whole concept. Bought a small upright with a power brush.

Ours works very well. Have you changed the dust bag in the basement lately? It is very likely full.

We have a good little upright we(?) really like. We also like the concept of just a hose and a couple of attachments.

We have replaced the bag, I'll check the intake and run a fish tape through it if I can.

We are still kicking around the idea of a replacement, canister type or another type of set up in the basement.

More stuff on the list of fun stuff to do.

Ours works well too but I still run the Dyson Animal and the Bissell through there when we get home. Yes, check for an obstruction.

Instead of a fish tape try to attach the dirt devil hose to your shop vac, if there is an obstruction the shop vac should be able to suck it clear, just be sure to disconnect the hose at the basement unit, otherwise you will suck all the dirt out of the bag. If I remember correctly there is a fiber pad as an additional filter in the back of the dirt devil housing, that could be dirty.

As for other units I have had OK success with the Eureka Yellow Jacket built in another RV.

I have now moved to the Dyson V6 Absolute (separate powered heads for carpet and hardwood/tiled floors). I find the performance better than the built ins with the addition of the powered heads.

It is a rechargeable stick vacuum. It hides nicely in the washer/dryer closet.

Hope this helps,
Brian

We were using the Dyson Animal until my wife discovered how well the Dirt Devil central vac works. Ours is great and the bags last longer than I thought they would.

We bought the Dyson when we had another coach without central vac and out of habit continued to use it until recently.

When I tried ours it didn't have any suction. Found the intake pipe had come off at the Dirt Devil. May have to put a screw in to hold it.

Our rig came with a RV2000 Maxum By Vacuflo.High Performance central cleaning system. Is this just a fancy name for Dirt Devil ? I don't know. I do know it works great.

We have the Magnum on ours and it works great. Went on their website and found a household size vac. head. Spent the $$ for that and could not be happier.
