Door Switch

I have a broken door interlock switch which operates the steps. My guess is that Alpine installed the NO pushbutton switch. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement switch.

Have you tried a spacer mounted to door where switch contacts. Had that problem and 2 washers screwed there fixed it. Larry

Try Camping World--back counter parts. Should be pretty cheap. Double=check Larry's idea--the switch often gets out of adjustment and a shim or two will fix it. If its broke internally, then CW is your source.....

Actually, the switch has failed externally. The mounting plate has separated from the body of the switch. If I get near a Camping World I will give them a try.

I had the same problem with the push button switch on the door jamb. I purchase mine at Napa. Exact replacment two wire switch is pretty standard. Make sure all your connections which are behind the nose on the passenger side are not corroded before you replace the switch. I found that the wires where just corroded and needed to be cleaned.

When you buy it at CW, double check it is the right type. They sell both push to run power and release to run power. They look the same. I was, of course, lucky to get one that was marked wrong.

As a temporary "Fix" (in fact you may wish to leave it in full time) get a straight SPST toggle switch at any store that sells them, this can be a common household light switch or an automotove type.

For now, route the switch wires to this switch.. As I recall. on my rig (NOTE: Some work one way some the other) if you close the switch the steps pull in. open it for out.

If yours works that way you may wish to leave the toggle in place and when you get the new switch parallel them.

ON other rigs the steps pull in when the switch is open

IN a case like that I"d wire the two switches in series.

That way. even with the door open, I could have the steps retracted. There are times I wish it this way

WOW--I didnt know about the two kinds of switches--"inees" and "outees". Guess I had a 50/50 chance of getting the right one--and did. Still think CW is your best bet with the change-out process done in the parking lot. Assuming they have both switches, you should able to exchange it on the spot if you get the wrong one.
