How in the heck do you open the engine cover under the bed. I unhooked the three latches but there was no lifting the cover. Is there another secret hold down someplace.

IIRC , if you lift the mattress, there are two cut outs at the base of the engine cover. Our coach had hold down locks hidden inside.
Ours is a 2000 model, yours might be different.

The engine cover is very heavy with the mattress on it. On my '02 I found it much easier to pull the mattress away from the headboard so the it doesn't jam when lifting the cover. I also used an old broom handle, cut to fit, to back up the metal rods when propping it up. If it has been a long time since it was opened, the seal might be slightly stuck.

I got tired of lifting the bed on my '02 and installed a gas lifter (from NAPA) on each side of the bed. Same principle as the ones on your car hood.

DLukes,
What size gas lifter did you get? I haven't yet been back to the RV for another attempt, with a couple of pry bars.
