Engine Brake

2007 Alpine Limited SE ISL 400, When engine brake is applied engine lite comes on ID 27 FMI 3 VG Turbo Actr 1/HIVOLT. Only happens when engine is warmed up then Engine brake no longer works. ID 27, FMI 3, VG Turbo Actr 1/HIVOLT; points to 2385 Fault Code for the VGT Actuator; faulty Turbocharger Control or a wiring issue.

Anyone else have this issue?

Update, my Altenator went bad. On the way back from having it replaced therwasher no engine lite's when the engine brake kicked-in; So I'm guardedly opptimist that the voltage going to the AGT Actuator was not correct and would cause the default.

Exhaust brake

I have a 2005 Alpine coach 38ft with a 8.9 Cummins. What exhaust brake will this unit have? When I apply exhaust brake I feel it slow when coming to a stop. I then switch off and on accel eng has no power and blows black smoke on heavy accel. I made a stop for fuel for about 10 min and when I restarted started to drive, on accel if was working great until I use exhaust brake again. Same on accel no power black smoke. Any ideas on this

The 2005 Alpine with a Cummins 8.9 ISL engine should have a two stage Jake Brake. I have only seen one Alpine with an 8.9 Cummins ISL with an exhaust brake and that was a 2002 with a 370 hp.

All of the early Alpines with the Cummins 8.3 engines had an Exhaust Brake.

Your Alpine may have a Variable Vain Turbo. The Turbo may be going bad. I had similar symptoms with my 2008 Dodge Ram Diesel which has a Variable Vain Turbo which went bad and had to be replaced.

Finally Fixed

I finally took it to a Cummins shop and they eventually replaced the wiring harness to the ECM. Now the check engine light does not come on when using the PAC Brake.

They also replaced the radiator with one I bought from Burk Morgan, works great!
