Fire @ WRV plant.

As I type this I am listening to scanner traffic. They have a large industrial Fire @ 2900 sutherland rd in Union Gap.
This is the facility where WRV manufactures the Alpine Coach.
The upper valley depts have thus far requested assistance from one lower valley station. If more help is needed from lower valley my former station is next (i am a ex-volunteer firefighter)

Lets hope this is minor and things can get back to normal shortly.

In the parking lot in front of service center, Many fire trucks etc. on site, huge amount of smoke, Appears to be in the back corner in area of cabinet shop, cops wont permit anyone on front street. Complete area filled with smoke, still pouring out of that corner of bldg. 8:20pm.

Just came across that the fire is out , though smoke removal and overhaul will continue for a couple hours.
Thank goodness they got a quick knockdown on it before it got out of hand.

Someone outside just reported that fire was in a motorhome as per tv broadcast.

FYI - Due to the fire in the production facility, Alpine Coach tours are cancelled until further notice.

Article in Yakima Herald-Republic Wed 12OCT:
"UNION GAP-A coach on the assembly line at Western RV was destroyed by a fire that broke out about 8:40 PM Tuesday at the company's plant in the 2900 block of Sutherland, Union Gap firefighters said.

Sprinklers activated by th esmoke alarm contained the fire damage to the single vehicle, Fire Chief Tom Kelm said.

But when the first crews arrived, heavy smoke was pouring from all vents of the metal warehouse, Kelm said.

About 60 firefighters from across Yakima County responded to the incident.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Tuesday night.

No value estimate was available."

Though fire damage was contained to the single chassis, smoke (and for coaches w/out roofs, water) damage would not have been.
If it was in the chassis plant, the only large impact would be to the purchaser of that coach. If it was in the coach plant, there will be remedial work req'd to most of the coaches on the line to some extent, and delivery dates will likely be affected. Of course that coach will have been wrecked.
My condolances to WRV and purchasers of affected coaches on the line.

Reminds me to change out my fire extinguishers to non-powder type, & remount the one that came screwed to the floor of the rear closet (not sure who thought that was a handy place for a fire extinguisher, maybe the guy who wired the above coach?). Good impetus for a fire safety tune-up.

I feel very fortunate as our Apex was rolled out to the Peak area for alignment yesterday. I also send my condolances to WRV and the owners of affected coaches.
