Earlier, I asked a similar question, but was looking into an installation where a relatively thin flat screen display could be used with a separate, remote control box. The screen would be for display only, and could be thinner and lighter than a fully contained TV. My goal was to pivot/hinge the flat screen at it's top edge so it could be swung up flat against the bottom of the cabinets above the driver area when not in use, where the old style tube type TV and other storage cabinets are located. And yeah, then the former TV cabinet area could be used for other stereo equipment and related storage.
I never could locate a flat display screen (other than a PC monitor) and separate control head, so gave up for the time being - only available option so far is a PC monitor and a actual PC with a TV board to operate it....
Meanwhile all we have is a 22 inch flat panel TV that travels on the bed, and gets placed on the very ample dashboard for viewing...

Almost finished. The two inboard cabinet doors will be hinged at the top so they can be open for ventilation without being in the way.

What is the black thing in the ceiling in the second picture? A speaker?

Probably the speakers for the in-dash radio/CD. My coach has those too.

I don't see the need to bring the screen down or be able to pivot it. Our LCD is great from the sofa, recliner or at our table in the galley area. Unless you like getting the screen out of sight it seems that it is an expense and work that I would find totally unnecassary. I mounted our screen with a downward angle that is comfortable for our viewing from anywhere when we are seated or standing.

I wish our older Winnie MH had the space for an up to date flat panel TV - original space MIGHT handle an 18 inch - whatever it had was long gone when we bought it, and a 13 inch was in the space. Only way for anything up over 18 inches, is to suspend it below the overhead cabinets...

Ted,
I agree. Our coach came with the 37" plasma screen, and it is mounted slightly downward. Obviously the cabinets were sized to it. It does not hang down too low to make tilting it up out of the way necessary. Plasmas don't have the angle viewing concern that some LCD sets suffer from. I have a 37" LCD set in my office at home that will fit the space if the plasma ever craps out.

My original plan was to mount the TV on the articulating mount so I could turn it to a horizontal position under the cabinet.
I admit I will seldom lower it but I already had the mount. Anyway it is nice to have the TV out of the way of my bald head and rid of all the weight hanging up there.

Two Sailors, I surely agree about the out of the way for my almost bald head & the weight of that old 27 or 32 was incredible. It was a bear to get down.
