FWIW, here is a link to a VDC repair doc prepared by some Freightliner owners. They observed false gauge readings for air pressure & possibly other functions generated by bad connections in the Vehicle Data Center, VDC, and were able to repair at times by resoldering connections. That's the same basic Kysor (now Medallion) VDC form used by WRV in Alpines up thru 2004. Might be useful in a pinch.

VDC is located (on all coaches where I've found it) on the rear face of the bulkhead aft-side of the battery compartment, just ahead of the air filter can. There may have been multiple versions used over the years. Have no idea if the earliest coaches used a VDC (before electronic injection).

Thanks Mike. Does wire 1637 go from the fuel sender through the VDC, or from the sender directly to the passenger side forward bulkhead connector and on to the message center?

I don't see any input of 1637 at the VDC. Looks to me like Sender-to-Bulkhead-to-MessageCenter.

Finally, the problem is fixed! I bought a new enunciator panel (idiot lights) from Medallion Gages and now the fuel gage reads correctly and the idiot lights also stopped cycling as they were before. I think the enunciator circuit board was damaged by a roof water leak over the driver area. There was some light corrosion on the enunciator circuit board, which i tried to clean with denatured alcohol and a toothbrush with no joy.
Thanks for everyone's help with this.

DJ- if I may ask, what did the replacement gauge & "Message Center" idiot lights cost?

The pre-ISC coaches did not use a VDC. Maybe some ISC coaches also but I don't about those.

The gage and message center were each $140.

That's good news. I was expecting a lot more.
