GAS STOVE KNOBS, Alpine 36', 2001
Alpine 36ft, 2001
A few days ago, two of the 4 knobs (middle and right rear burners) on the stove stopped working. You can push them in, the way you normally push to turn on, but, they will not turn at all.
Is there some trick, or lock that needs to be clicked?
Why two, at the same time?
Any ideas are most welcome.

Take the offending knobs off the stove and make sure they have not broken internally. If they have, the stove was made most likely by "Majic Chef" which is a maytag company I believe. Any RV Parts place can order new knobs for you and I would order 3, replace all the knobs, and keep the one that works for a spare. Heat kills the inside of the knob, as that is conducted back from the burner to the little valve into the knob. If they get real hot, you wont be able to tunr off that burner. It can happen it did to us.

Hi Monty & Janet
Thank you for your reply. I may not have explained the problem clearly.
All the knobs look like-new. You can remove them easily and are not broken. The problem is the switch itself. You know how to turn a burner on, you first push the knob in and then turn to the start position, etc. Well, with two of the knobs you can push in, but then they will not turn. They still have the "springy" feel and pop out when you realease them, but will not turn. The other two knobs (rear left and oven) work fine. I opened the stove top and all looks fine, clean, nothing broken. By the way, mine is an Amana. I tried contacting Amana online, but got nowhere. Again, thanks for your input. Bill Fleming

Bill ... simple test ... swap the "good" knob with one of the "bad" knobs to determine if you have a knob problem or a stove valve problem.
Just a thought ...

I imagine any appliance repair place could both diagnose the problem and order new parts; the size of the stove is RV specific, but not the parts.

Thanks - I did that; no change, so it is the switch itself that seems "locked".

Yes - I have a call in to a local appliance repair shop. I am presently at a campground in Blowing Rock NC, and the services availble seem limited. So, we (meaning Judy, my wife) camp-out with one burner...!

Well, those are really little gas valves which turn the gas to the burner on/off. Sounds like the bad ones need to be replaced, but I have never seen that, sometimes there are little slots in the knob and they break and the know turns and turns, but nothing happens, like the post above switch the know which works to one of the one that does not, and see if things now work on that position. Then you will know if it's the knob or the valve itself.
