Generator Slide Retraction

We had to have our Rig. (2005, 34 ft. Alpine) towed this last summer because of a breakdown. The tow truck driver damaged the slide motor and housing. Damage was repaired but now the front cover does not retract all the way in without my manually pushing it closed during the last 1 inch of travel. I would like any information and suggestions about correcting this problem. There has to be some kind of adjustment to correct this problem rather than taking the motor home back to the repair facility which is 300 miles away. Thanks in advance for any info. -- Tom --

My guess is that the alignment pins are off. They are located next to the rails.

This last summer I was having difficulty with the latching mechanism, it didn't want to release when extending the gen slide. I could not find any adjustment. I then tried turning the screw shaft a couple of turns by hand, and it relieved the pressure on the latch mechanism. It now works perfect. Maybe this will help you.

Tom- check the portion of the slide tray where the actuator mechanism connects to the tray. On some units the tray cross piece flexed quite a bit, so a fix was devised to take two pieces of 3/8" allthread & connect that cross piece w/the next cross piece behind it, w/a nut on either side. Takes two allthreads of appropriate length, & 8 nuts, one on each side of each end of allthread; one allthread running fore-aft about 2" each side of the actuator rod.

To see this in action, you have to be under the coach watching for the 1st coupla inches of extend or last coupla inches of close. If yours has this affliction you will see the flex on the front cross member just fine. If no flex, then its something else, perhaps as described above.
