The generator on my '98 36FDS won't start. I was getting code 11 when I cranked it over which the book says is low battery voltage. I wasn't surprised as a battery test showed both my 8D's were not holding a charge. Now I have 2 brand new Deka AGM batteries but the problem is still there.
I have disconnected the remote switches and turned off the load switch at the generator but it still shuts down with code 11 after a few seconds of cranking. Any ideas?

John,

You didn't say, Have you checked the voltage with a meter? I would check the voltage at the generator, it is not unusual to have poor connections somewhere, with the length of the run and the age of the coach. If the voltage tests OK at the generator then the problem is probably inside the generator.

Check connections at the battery and at the generator. Clean all connections. Also, try to start the genset when your RV itself is running. Many /most gensets on RV's get power from the --chassis battery in the engine compartment-- NOT the house batteries. Often starting the RV and keep it running when you do the genset start, adds enough current to get the genset to start..

I think I misread the fault code. It says this may be low battery voltage if it occurs while starting the main engine, which I was not. The voltage is fine up to the generator so I am left with the other code 11 fault which is an overload condition. I have turned off the 120v output and still get the same error so I guess I have an internal fault.
