Hi all,
We purchased a used 2000 40fds last year and when we tried to use the couch in the slide as a bed it pulled loose from the floor. It was attached by 1/4" lag bolts. I replaced them with 5/16 lag bolts and they immediately tore out as well. Looking at the edge of the slide floor, it appears to be a steel or aluminum framework with a very thin wood covering. The covering is too thin to be expected to hold a lag screw. How was this couch originally tied down? I expect the PO had it out when they re-carpeted and didn't properly replace it. Anybody know how it was originally installed?

Our couch is held down with the 4 - 1/4 " lags thru the legs of the couch.
I assume you are using the release latch for the couch located in the middle just below the seat cushion and above the base cover. When we move this lever the couch seat portion lifts and almost opens itself.
Our floor i believe is 1/2" plywood.

A lot of couches are secured using what is called an Elevator bolt. Elevator bolts look a lot like a stove bolt with a square shoulder to keep them from turning but the Elevator bolt has a large flat head. Here is a photo of one...

You drill a hole through the slide floor. Then on the outside you drill a counter sink hole large enough and just deep enough to allow the bolt head to be flush with the outside side of the slide floor. Make sure you use some silicone around the bolt to seal it.
