hwh oil reservoir leak

My 2006 40fdqs apex is leaking oil from hwh reservoir located passenger side behind front tire. Masseys diesel in Phoenix says its leaking from return hose located at bottom of tank, and the tank has to be removed to get to fittings to re-seal or replace. I have looked underneath the coach and see no access, has anybody else got any ideas. Thanks

Chris, didnt realize HWH had changed the design/configuration of the tank, pump and hose manifold. "Historically," HWH connected all hoses the hose manifold which inturn provided the mounting structure for the tank and pump[s]. Even if there are hose connections to the tank in the "new" design, they'd be very low pressure and not very susceptible to leaking. If they were leaking, they'e be pretty easy to tighten. Hope I am not misleading you because of my lack of familiarity with the "new" design, but think I'd get a second opinion here....

Feed its habit until you get to Quartzsite, we can take it out there and figure out how to fix it. You also might see if there are any technical drawings on HWH's website. Realize this is a modified version of the 625 system, so WRV might have changed some things to suit their application. I will be off line for a couple of days, but when I can look, I will crawl under and see what I can see, as yours and mine must be close. Although I have an APEX, the pump assembly (but I have two motors a primary and secondary one) might be close. For a while, HWH's customer service was worse than blowing feathers in a hurricane. However, recent reports are saying its better now so giving them a call won't hurt anything and the person might be able to send you some additional drawings which will allow you to pinpoint the issue.

I also agree with Old Scout, I believe there are no pipes/hoses on the bottom of the tank; everything is connected to a manifold and solenoid valve. I would not pay them to work on it until you see a picture of what the tech is talking about and a firm estimate of what it will take to repair. The only other thing it could be would be the tank itself leaking, that would not be good, and on the other hand, once the tank is out, and the fluid has been drained, welding it up would be easy then just a matter of reassembly and putting it back in, purging the air, etc.

Here is a picture of the Apex double pump hydraulic system out of the coach. We had a double pump failure in beautiful El Paso and were STUCK there for several days with the slides out. As I recall, the input hoses to the pumps come from under the tank.

Most everything is bolted to a tray which must be removed from the coach to remove many of the parts like the pumps and probably the tank. WRV installed the tray and then put all the wiring in front of it. This makes it extremely difficult to work on.

They say a picture speaks a thousand words, and this one sure does. It appears you took the manifold off prior to taking the picture is that correct?
What failed on yours? Both Motors at once? And I mentioned that WRV uses a modified 625 system, and I got that streight from HWH. So they used the pumps/manifold and then changed it around to fit the applications and spaces is my guess.

Chris,

As you know. I do not have the Apex.

However, I had a similar leak. I traced it to one of the check valves on the top of the manifold. The hex cover that holds the check valve in the manifold had backed off, from vibration. Tightened all of them. Cleaned the area and added fluid. Problem solved.

The Apex HWH system is a model 2000. The double pump system is usually found in emergency vehicles, firetrucks, Homeland Security trucks, etc. HWH tried to talk Ron Doyle of of using this system.

I had a great mobile repair guy out of Las Cruces. Extensive trouble shooting with HWH confirmed both pumps were bad. So much for redundancy. The pumps are bolted from the bottom side of the tray which means to replace them the tray has to be removed. Rather than disconnect all the hoses, he found it easier to remove the manifold and leave the hoses attached. WRV installed a rats nest of wiring in front. He marked all the wires in two places and cut them rather than trying to disconnect all of them and figure out where they went later. Now, God forbid, if this ever happens again it will be much easier.

IIIWMI'd put back to back valves on the line between tank & pump. Pump has fluid in its housing, and obviously tank has fluid. W/two valves I could shut both off, disconnect between the valves, and remove either or both w/out flooding the town w/HWH fluid.
You need to figure out where the valves can go so you can access them, and that might mean a long loop of hose w/the valves in the middle.
