I have the upgrade chip for the HWH leveling jacks. This will enable us to hit the store button while underway to retract an errant jack. Where does this chip go?

Tom, the box is located under the dash in the middle laying on the floor. Aluminum box about 3x4"x10". Disconnect the wires after making note of location. Open it up and pull out the circut board. Locate the chip and make note of its direction. Very carefully pry it out to avoid damaging the board, press in the new one and reassemble.
If you're not comfortable prying out the chip and your going to the DRR, HWH should be in the big tent, Just bring them the box.
PS Koni did not have a cross reference for the shocks.

I called HWH and the person I talked to had no knowledge of chip. is there something that I have to mention that will get there attention

Hello & Welcome Harold:

I hope I can explain this about the chip. On many coaches not just Alpine they have had a problem with one of the Jacks in the rear near the engine. When you have been driving for a while sometimes one of the jacks goes down slightly and causes the jacks down warning indicator to scar the S*!T out of you.

The only way to raise the jack is to stop the coach, set the parking brake, turn on the HWH control panel and raise the jacks.

When you replace the chip, the HWH panel can be turned on and the jacks can be raised without stopping.

If you explain this to HWH they should understand.

Dave- Any idea if this glitch is fixed in newer HWH products? I haven't had the creeping jack syndrome, but would want the fix in case I do.

Mike,

This doesn't happen very often. In fact in 1 year and 20K miles it has occurred maybe 5-6 times. But like Dave says.......you are driving along and all of the sudden the buzzer goes off

, it does get your attention, especially when the first thing you think of is an engine problem $$$$$$$$$$$$

.

The ability to use the store button on the jacks while going down the road is already on newer coaches, only in the older coaches did you have to stop to store the jack. We have an 04 and can hit the store button while going down the road and the jack will retract.

FYI. My understanding of the jack system is that the warning light is turned off by a microswitch whitch indicates that the jack is up. So if the light comes on, presumably from the expansion of fluid due to the heat in that quadrant, the jack is not "down", it is just not "up". The springs should never allow a jack to descend to a point where it would be a hazard. The pump would have to run and fully pressurize the system to lower a jack.
I have had it happen a coulple of times. It definately gets your attention. But the last time I continued until I had to stop for another reason before activating the sytstem to retract it. Looking at it visually I could not tell that it was not fully retracted. My opinion.

I would agree that the jack probably moves downward just enough to activate the alarm, but I can imagine what a fireworks show it would be. My imagination, plus the darn buzzer, and our GSD, makes me pull over as soon as it is safe.
