Hydraulic pump motor.
Need to know the part number of the above motor. Mine will work only
if struck lightly with a metal hammer. Setting in Billings Mt on the way to
pre-ralley in Casper tomorrow.

Since there are literally thousands of hydraulic pump motors it would be impossible to answer your question without further information.

….that is why he is in the Alpine forum, but it would help to add your year and model of Alpine to your sig block so we know how best to help you. I see by your profile that you have a 2007--pump failure is fairly common with these and older coaches. Unlikely to find one locally and not repairable by typical shops so you will have to get with HWH to get a new one--may take a week or more. Also likely HWH rep will be at FMCA Gillette but may or may not have this pump in stock. My coach is a 2003 so different pump. If the problem has just started, you can get by with the "tapping" technique for awhile--though its not reassuring when you are on the road. Should be an HWH AP number on the pump. Several owners have replace these pump recently so perhaps one will chime in with an AP number....

Please verify that you are talking about the HWH jack/slide room motor VS the cooling fan hydraulic motor.

PS--check out AZPete here on the forum, he does not advertise on the forum but is a certified HWH mechanic and has a good inventory of parts available for sale. He lives in Mesa but could be on his way to Gillette.....

RAP 91249 is the number I have from a friend who recently replaced a pump on his 2008. Another good source for HWH parts is Stuart's Service Elkhart, Indiana, 800-826-6267......

I had problems with my 01 hwh motor due to they failed to use a separate ground wire for the negative brush holder inside the motor. They depended on the motor grounding bolts to ground motor. They corroded.... I had to pull the motor apart and install a bolt through the negative brush frame to ground it properly. Then I added an external wire to ground to make sure the grounding was working correctly. Motor worked correctly, just bad design, it was corrected in later years.

Yup, plenty of information/videos on redoing the motor ground.
I would sure try that before spending the $$ on a new motor.

If you are where you can drop the motor to a motor rebuilding shop (they do starter motors, alternators, etc.), you can
1. disconnect battery grounds
2. remove motor
3. take to shop for rebuild, tell them the issues (you can also repair motor yourself if you feel comfortable), this is frequently a 24hr turn around, and sometimes these shops have replacement 12V motors in stock they will sell you
4. re-install motor
5. re-attach battery grounds

Has any one had to replace there steering pump, if so what do you have.
Have a 03 Alpine 40' diesel coach the steering pump is making noise and does not have the correct amount of pressure, The pump on the coach was made by Sauer Danfoss
which is out of business

From your description of your temporary solution, it sounds like you have brush problems. when they get worn down, (shorter) the brush springs can't exert as much pressure on the armature. Hence, they will stick just short of putting enough pressure on the armature to work. Tapping with a hammer will work for a while. When I replaced my primary pump a year ago, the folks at HWH only wanted to know the diameter of the pump body, as there were two sizes. they didn't care about the model number. In case you were confused by my use of the word "primary", my system has two pumps the secondary pump is a back-up. I think this system was only available on the Apex models. The pump was in stock, and cost about $200.00.
